Biofuels & Ethanol

We firmly believe that Brazil will play a key role in the development of ethanol and biofuels projects, and will certainly become one of the leading countries in these markets. Large investments in biofuels are expected from international and domestic companies in the near future.

We are now involved in the review of the regulatory framework for the production of biofuels in Brazil. We have assisted clients in public hearings and discussions on administrative rules and bills in progress.

Recently, we have advised clients on public bids promoted by the National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis - ANP) for the sale of biodiesel.

Our assistance includes the negotiation of joint ventures between international investors and domestic ethanol and biofuels producers, as well as the structuring of due diligence for the acquisition and divestiture of assets and equity participation in processing plants.

We participate in the structuring of ethanol export transactions, by drafting and negotiating contracts and securing appropriate governmental approvals. Our lawyers assist clients in acquisitions of real estate for construction of biofuels facilities, and review of relevant environmental, tax and legal aspects.
